ECU Tops Aggies for Ninth Win
The Pirates pick up their ninth victory of the season with a 84-71 win over North Carolina A&T in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. GREENVILLE, N.C. - Akeem Richmond and Paris Roberts-Campbell tossed in 21 points each to lead East Carolina(9-2) to a 84-71 win over North Carolina A&T(3-7) in Minges Coliseum Saturday night.
Richmond scored 15 by intermission and Roberts-Campbell had 14 in the second half to lead five Pirates in double-figures including Caleb White with 14, Prince Williams who scored 12 and Michael Zangari who contributed with 10 before fouling out in the second half. Brandon Stith had 10 rebounds for ECU.
Richaud Pack led the Aggies with 20 points and six rebounds while Bruce Beckford had 17 and Lamont Middleton tossed in 16.
A&T took a brief 6-4 lead on a Middleton basket early in the game before East Carolina went on a 12-0 run to take a 16-6 lead on two Caleb White free throws.
Two Richmond treys, three buckets from Prince Williams, a pair of Richmond treys and a lay-in and a three-point basket from Paris Roberts-Campbell found the Pirates up 44-27 despite ten points from Richaud Pack at halftime.
Robert-Campbell scored on six different occasions in the first twelve minutes of the second half at the Pirates opened up a big 72-47 cushion with 8:31 to play.
Middleton did his best to keep the Aggies in the contest scoring on five different occasions from both inside and out, but the Pirates matched them basket for basket for the most part leading 81-57 with 4:20 left in the game.
Two Jerome Simmons baskets, a lay-up, a three-point basket and a free throw along with a Richaud Pack basket with ten seconds to play trimmed the lead to 85-71 in the last ten seconds of the game.
East Carolina hit 50 percent of their shots from the floor including 9 of 21 from the arc and 27 of 37 from the stripe while A&T was limited to 39 percent shooting and 6 of 16 from three-point range. The Aggies had 17 turnovers to 14 for the Pirates.
East Carolina scored 24 second chance points in the victory.
