September 2, 2009 GREENVILLE, N.C. - A trip in November to the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam along with nine games against post season participants highlight this year's ECU basketball schedule that was released on Tuesday. The Pirates will face Tennessee in the first round of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on November 20 before a second-round game against NCAA Tournament participant Northern Iowa or DePaul. The tournament also includes Boston College, Purdue, St. Joseph's and South Dakota State. "The Paradise Jam will be an opportunity to play against some of the nation's best teams on a neutral court," McCarthy said. The Pirates will open the season on November 13 against The University of Virginia-Wise before hosting Coker College, St. Andrews and North Carolina Central later in the season. The Pirates will play 14 games at home including a second ever visit from Clemson on December 16 and George Washington plays ECU for the first time since 1973 on December 22. Non-conference tilts also includes a pair of games at the Greensboro Coliseum. ECU will meet Wake Forest on November 15 and play UNC Greensboro on November 28. The Pirates and Demon Deacons will play for the fourth-straight year. East Carolina travels to Charlotte on December 2 to face the 49'ers in Halton Arena in the first meeting between the two since 2005. Other non-conference road games include trips to Campbell and to Richmond to take on Virginia Commonwealth. The Pirate open the C-USA slate on the road against UAB January 6th among five league postseason contestants from a year ago on this year's docket. ECU will play home-and-homes with Marshall, Rice, Southern Miss, Tulane and UCF for a fifth consecutive year, while they have single home games against Houston, SMU and Tulsa. ECU will also hit the road for C-USA play at Memphis and UTEP. "Pirate basketball is in for a tremendous challenge with our schedule for the upcoming season," said Pirate head coach Mack McCarthy. "We again have a number of non-conference games in Greenville, highlighted by Clemson and George Washington, and quality road games within driving distance for Pirate fans such as Wake Forest in Greensboro." ECU will open with quite a long road swing to begin the season but McCarthy thinks it might help battle harden the team in the long run. "Opening the season with seven of eight games away from the friendly confines of Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum will be difficult, but will help prepare us for the rigors of conference play. Conference USA continues to improve every year and we have an exciting home conference slate again." 2009-10 ECU Men's Basketball Schedule Nov. 13 Fri. UVa-Wise Greenville, N.C. 6 p.m. Nov. 15 Sun.
