Spring Camp: Day Ten

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Time is marching on and for East Carolina, progress is tangible, but this staff wants more before next week's annual spring game in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium brings a close to camp.

The heat & humidity was easier to notice on Wednesday, but a breeze kept things tolerable for the two-hour workout for Day 10 of the 2012 ECU spring football camp.

Strength and conditioning guru Jeff Connors has this team in the best shape in many years. To a man, each are denoting the dividends of the hard work being put in.

Eventually clouds rolled in and threatened the end of the workout but the Pirates were able to get all of their work in by juggling a few things around in the practice schedule.

With Shane Carden out with a finger injury, the competition is picking up between Rio Johnson, Brad Wornick and Cody Keith, who has had a solid camp.

The offensive line is beginning to gell as is the defense. ECU appears to have plenty of options at both running back and receiver.

Even in shells, this team hits hard while staying on their feet. All of the coaches are working to maximize everyone's improvement in the week or so remaining.

"Really competitive day, we adjusted today, we felt lightning coming. I really like this team, we have some nicks and bruises but I like the way we're working," said McNeill.

Friday will be a normal practice but in the morning and maybe a little shorter. "We'll probably do some special teams and I'll lean more to exposure and exposing them to more schematic thoughts."

Coach Ruffin McNeill renders his complete daily recap of the workout. Catch PI First Photos and PI-TV camp video with defensive and offensive reports from wide receiver Andrew Bodenheimer and inside linebacker Ty Holmes who says this has been his best camp. Check it out at PirateIllustrated.com.
