Defense Solid in Scrimmage

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina conducted their second scrimmage of the 2012 spring camp on Saturday and the defense looked very stout.

Hunter Furr scored a pair of touchdowns in redzone work, Justin Jones caught a nice pass as did Justin Hardy and the defense did their share of flying around and creating havoc. Leonard Paulk intercepted a Cody Keith pass for a touchdown for the defense.

For the most part, the offense had difficulty moving the football on the ECU defense. Both squads have some pieces missing and more players will filter in come September but overall, the offense still has work to do on the offensive line to be game ready.

With just one week to go before the annual spring game, Ruffin McNeill is looking to get the most out of spring camp before moving into summer workouts with strength coach Jeff Connors.

"Special teams installation went well. We went about sixty plays today. The plan was to get some consistant offensive flow when the ball was in the middle of the field and put both groups into a stress situation," McNeill said, "I thought the team handled it well. The biggest thing that hurt us was the administrative penalties. I like the progress of the team, the enthusiasm was fantastic, the competitive nature of this team, I like."

"I'm pleased with this group, we're getting ready for the summer and I'm looking forward to it."

After the scrimmage, Coach McNeill talked for PI-TV along with PI First Photos and video interviews with Michael Brooks, Rio Johnson and Hunter Furr.
