UTEP Week Begins
GREENVILLE, N.C. - ECU dipped below the .500 mark on Saturday with a 48-28 loss to Southern Miss last Saturday. This week it's back to the drawing board as the Pirates try to find a way to win two of the last three games to become bowl eligible.
Southern Miss was no easy task as Ruffin McNeill told a press audience on Monday at the Ward Sports Medicine Building.
"The four non-defensive touchdowns hurt us. We knew it was a game where both teams would probably have to play error free," said McNeill, "We don't exactly control our destiny but we can finish strong. We'll bounce back and now all of our attention is on UTEP."
ECU travels to El Paso this week for an 8:05 ET kickoff against the UTEP Miners in the Sun Bowl who enter the game with an equal 4-5 record but are 1-4 in Conference USA play. ECU has dipped to 3-2 in league play so they have little room for error if they want to find a way to slip in the back door of a C-USA East divisional title.
The Pirates are 2-0 all time against the Miners but have not played them since 2008.
DE Robert Huckabee and Mike Price are both listed as probable after concussions, OL Grant Harner and OLB Marke Powell are questionable for Saturday while DB Detric Allen, RB Reggie Bullock, OL Adhern Elsawi and WR Lance Lewis are all listed as out for this week. The game will be televised on Time-Warner in El Paso and by WITN-TV 7 in eastern North Carolina.
