UCF Runs Past ECU 40-20

ORLANDO - UCF spotted East Carolina 14 early points before going on to beat the Pirates 40-20 in Bright House Networks Stadium Thursday night.

The Pirates opened up the scoring with a 13 play, 75 yard drive culminating in a Shane Carden six yard touchdown run and a 7-0 lead.

After a Pirate stop on defense, Carden connected with Justin Hardy for a 76 yard strike and a early 14-0 lead with 6:09 left in the first quarter.

The game turned on a dime on special teams when Quincy McDuffy's 99 yard kickoff return for his fourth career kickoff touchdown inched the Knights back to within a touchdown.

A Storm Johnson four yard touchdown run tied the game at the 14:13 mark of the second quarter.

Two UCF(3-2/1-0) field goals and an ECU(3-3/2-1) field goal gave UCF a 20-17 lead going into the locker room.

Moffitt would hit two more field goals in the second half. Quincy McDuffie hauled in a screen pass and scampered 64 yards for a UCF touchdown. Bortles would run for another as the Knights pulled away in the second half for the 40-20 victory.
