ECU Tops Herd 86-79

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Miguel Paul scored 22 and Maurice Kemp had 21 as East Carolina beat Marshall on Senior Night in Minges Coliseum, 86-79.

Paul had nine at halftime but made his presense known in the second stanza. He ended up with ten assists for the Pirates.

Akeem Richmond scored 18 points in 4 of 10 shooting from the arc and 4 of 5 from the foul line the win.

Marshall(13-18/6-10) got a career high 27 points from Robert Goff who had his way in the paint all night while Elijah Pittman had 21 and DeAndre Kane scored 20 in a losing cause.

The Pirates got off to a fast start, up 10-3 on a Miguel Paul three-pointer despite Goff scoring six times in the next five minutes.

Three Kemp baskets pushed ECU back up to a ten point lead at halftime, 35-25.

Goff scored three times in a row to begin the second half. Two Pittman baskets, including a three-point play gave Marhall the lead at 41-40 with 15 minutes to go.

But a Ty Armstrong dunk, Kemps only trey of the night and three Richmond baskets gave ECU a 53-46 cushion.

Kane, Pittman and Goff tried to keep it close for the Herd and Pittman's trey with four minutes to go tied the game at 68.

Two Richmond buckets along with two Kemp free throws and four from Paul from the charity stripe put the dagger in Marshall.

The Herd got 46 points in the paint against ECU whle the Pirates got 20 from their bench in getting their 18th win of the season and Minges Coliseum record 13 home wins.

The Pirates shot at a 52 percent clip and hit 10 of 20 from three-point land while Marshall was 30 of 61 from the floor for 49 percent and were 5 of 13 from the arc.

ECU hit 28-39 foul shots while Marshall connected on 14 of 20.

The turnover battle was basically even with 14 for the Herd and 13 for ECU who will get a first round bye in next week's Conference USA tournament in Tulsa.
