Carden Named Semi-Finalist For Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award
ECU Junior Is A Two-Time Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player-of-the-Week Selection
ECTR Press Release
TYLER, Texas - East Carolina junior quarterback Shane Carden is one of 16 semi-finalist for the Inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award the committee announced Tuesday morning.
Carden, one of two players on the semi-final list to garner multiple player-of-the-week honors, has guided the Pirates to an 8-2 overall record and a Conference USA-best 6-1 ledger. The Houston, Texas prep product has passed for a league-high 3,320 yards, completing 72.5 percent of his passes (306-of-422) with 29 TDs - finding a FBS-best 10 different players for at least one score. He has also added seven ground scores to rank second on the team behind Vintavious Cooper's nine.
A three-time Conference USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week selection, Carden has engineered a Pirate offense that has racked up 500 yards or more of total offense five times, including a pair of 600-plus yard contests. He is the lone C-USA quarterback with 400-plus passing yards in a game this season (447/ODU, 480/Tulane) and has authored a league-best seven 300-yard air efforts.
Carden, who is on pace to break the school's single-season completions and passing yards record, has already set the ECU single-game standard for completions (46/ODU), passing yards (480/Tulane) and TDs accounted for (7/Tulsa), while tying his own mark with five passing scores on three occasions (ODU, Tulsa, UAB).
Nationally, he ranks among the top 10 in completions for 10-plus yards (2nd/145), total points responsible for (2nd/216), completion percentage (3rd/72.5), total passing TDs (4th/29), points responsible for per game (4th/21.6 pg), completions per game (5th/30.60 pg), passing yards per game (6th/332.0 pg), total passing yards (6th/3,320) and total offense (7th/336.3 pg).
Finalists will be selected from this group and announced on December 9, 2013. The winner will be announced and honored at the award banquet in Tyler, Texas on January 10, 2014.
