ECU Guns Down VMI 103-94

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Caleb White had a career high 24 points to lead six Pirates in double-figures toward a 103-94 victory over VMI Thursday night in Minges Coliseum.
White hit five of six from the floor including three treys and was 11 of 14 from the charity stripe in the victory. Michael Zangari tossed in 17 points, Akeem Richmond has 18, Prince Williams scored 22 on a perfect 5 for 5 night and 12 for 12 from the foul line while Brandon Stith produced 10 points and 10 boards for a double-double.
The Pirates exchanged baskets in the first half. A Jordan Weethee bucket gave the Keydets an early 12-5 lead before a Michael Zangari drive resulted in a three point play. Zangari scored again the next time down the floor, Caleb White canned two free throws, and a Paris Roberts-Campbell bomb tied the game at 14-14.
Trey Chapman and D.J. Covington kept VMI in the game in the first half after both teams exchanged three-point leads at the 8 minute mark. Williams hit a one and one from the line, an old fashioned three point play and a floater with 3:50 to go in the half to give ECU a 6 point lead, 40-34.
A Tim Marshall trey and a dunk by Covington offset four points from ECU's Brandon Stith in the last two minutes of the half. Prince Williams' three-point play with :11 seconds in the first period gave ECU the lead at halftime.
East Carolina led at intermission 49-45 in a flip-flop first half that featured four lead changes. The Pirates got to the stripe 44 times, hitting 35 of them. VMI hit 15 of their 16 free throw attempts for the evening.
ECU(10-2) clobbered the Keydets on the glass to the tune of 35 to 20, scoring 15 second chance points and getting 32 points from the bench in the win.
VMI(6-5) shot the basketball well, hitting 52.3 percent of their shots. They were led in scoring by point guard Rodney Glascow who led all scorers with 25 points and seven assists. He was accompanied by four other Keydets in double-figures.
DJ Covington scored 16, QJ Peterson hit 14, Jordan Weethee was also very effective with 12 points in a losing cause.
East Carolina connected on 55 percent of their 54 shots including 8 of 20 from the arc(40%) while VMI canned 11 of 26 from the arc.
