Simmons talked about slimming down a little this summer.
"I got on the scale this morning and I was down to 295. I'm not trying to lose any more and I'm actually going to gain five or ten pounds of muscle from here."
Simmons talked about the recruiting process and how he came to his decision to be a Pirate.
"From the get go, I just believed and knew I was going to East Carolina, with Coach Shankweiler and the whole Pirate staff there, they've been writing me letters, talking to me," said Simmons, Coach Shankweiler came by the school and talked to me. I knew, but I wasn't going to say anything about it."
Simmons had multiple reasons and talked further about what he likes about East Carolina.
"I drove to Greenville this morning to commit to ECU and I wanted to hear what Coach had to say. Everything Coach Shankweiler said was what I wanted to hear," said Simmons, East Carolina really treats me like family and that's what I like about a team."
"This is a solid commitment, very solid."
"I like the environment, they treat me like family, it feels like home. It's about 60 miles away and I like everything about it."
