ECU To The Big East

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Movement continues in college football realignment and this time East Carolina may finally be getting an opportunity.
According to sources, the Pirates will join the Big East Conference as a football only member in 2014 while the Green Wave would be granted a full membership into the conference.

Sources tell PirateIllustrated.com that the East Carolina University Board of Trustees approved the move sometime in the past 24 hours.
A press conference has been called for this afternoon at 5 pm in Greenville where both Chancellor Steven Ballard and Director of Athletics Terry Holland will address the press.
The Green Wave is slated to conduct a press conference on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and the league is considering Red, Blue Division names in 2015 according to ESPN.
Houston, Southern Methodist, Central Florida, San Diego State and Boise State have already been invited to move to the Big East.
Conference USA says they have several options but no one has been extended an invitation yet to replace ECU and Tulane.
Houston, SMU and UCF will play both football and basketball while the others are slated to become partial members in football only.
The Pirates stand 8-4 this season and 7-1 in Conference USA after a 65-59 Senior Day victory over Marshall in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium last Friday.
