ECU Tops ASU 82-72

GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the first time since 2002, East Carolina has started the season 4-0 with a 82-72 victory over Appalachian State in Minges Coliseum Tuesday night.
Kemp got plenty of help from teammate Robert Sampson who scored 17 of his own, not to mention pulling down 18 rebounds in the contest, a personal best.

Miquel Paul scored 14 points and dished out 6 assists in the win.
The Pirates led at halftime 38-33 in a scappy contest for both teams. ECU was able to control the paint, scoring 44 points inside on the way to a 45 percent shooting night. ECU limited ASU to just 42.6 percent from the floor and just 3 of 12 from the arc in a game that featured 49 fouls. But ECU hit on only 4 of 16 from the arc, an area of concern for Pirate coach Jeff Lebo.
Getting that fourth win wasn't easy as Nathan Healy out of New Bern lit it up with 24 points and 10 boards while Jay Canty pretty much had his way in the paint for much of the game, scoring 24 points. Tevin Baskin pulled down 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers.
Lebo talks about his team's performance for PI-TV's Chanellos Pizza PI Postgame along with postgame comments from Robert Sampson and Maurice Kemp.
