Herd Tops ECU 77-56

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - Starting slow has become the norm for East Carolina who spotted Marshall ten points to open the game. The Herd had little difficulty from there in a 77-56 win over ECU in the Cam Henderson Center Saturday Night.
Elijah Pittman's 19 points DeAndre Kane's 22 points and 7 rebounds led Marshall(9-9/2-1) while D.D. Scarver and Dennis Tinnin tossed in 13 points each.

Miguel Paul scored 17 points and dished out five assists for ECU. but had 7 of ECU's 18 turnovers in the loss.
Robert Sampson, Akeem Richmond and Maurice Kemp had ten apiece for the Pirates who only connected on 32 percent from the floor and 47 percent from the charity stripe for the evening.
Another slow start found Marshall leading ECU 27-4 after 12 minutes of the first half.
A Maurice Kemp jumper and Miquel Paul scoring on a three-point play cut the lead to 18 before Dennis Tinnon scored twice in a row. Robert Goff's lay-in and and DeVince Boykins' three-point jumper gave Marshall a 38-13 cushion at the four minute mark in the first half.
Marshall Guilmette's put back, Robert Sampson's left hand lay-in and a Paul midrange jumper from the left elbow cut the lead to eighteen in the last minute of the first half. The Pirates were down by 20 at halftime on a D.D. Scarver basket just before intermission.
The Pirates' early game shooting woes continued as ECU went 9-31 from the field in the first half for 29 percent including 1 for 7 from the arc. Marshall connected on 53 percent of their shots in the first half including 4 of 11 shooting from three-point range.
Elijah Pittman and Miguel Paul led their respective teams with 13 points apiece at halftime.
Despite ECU scoring the first six points of second half, two D.D. Scarver treys and an Austin Loop jumper put Marshall up 51-29.
Kane hit two free throws to become Marshall's all-time leading scorer and extended the Herd's lead to 29 with 8:15 to play.
Akeem Richmond canned two treys down the stretch for ECU(11-6/2-2) while Kemp and Ty Armstrong scored late to cut the lead to 17. Pittman and Kane answered on the other end for a 75-54 lead with about three minutes left. Sampson scored late for his tenth point to go along with 17 rebounds in ECU's sixth loss of the season. The Pirates are 1-5 on the road.
