Campbell Beats ECU in OT

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Darren White scored 25 points and dominated the glass with 10 boards as Campbell University beat ECU in overtime 86-81.
In a game that Campbell(4-9) pretty much controlled for 35 minutes of regulation, the Camels feasted on 7 first half ECU turnovers with six steals and 52 percent shooting for the contest. Campbell only attempted four treys but they connected on two of them and were stellar in moving the basketball and finding open shots all night.

Campbell did plenty of damage in the paint getting 46 points in the lane and 23 points in transition, mostly off of ECU miscues.
Marvelle Harris scored 16, Darius Leonard had 12 and Darian Hooker chipped in with 11 in one of Campbell's best outings of the season.
Maurice Kemp and Akeem Richmond ended up with 18 points for East Carolina(8-4) while Robert Sampson scored 13 and Ty Armstrong scored 12 for the Pirates in a losing cause.
Campbell led at halftime by eleven 36-25. ECU never led until the first minute of overtime when Maurice Kemp scored a basket to take a 73-71 lead. ECU led by three on two occasions in the overtime before a Leek Leek dunk gave the Camels the lead back with 1:18 to play.
A Corvonn Gaines turnover was converted into an easy basket by Reco McCarter to give Campbell a three point cushion with a minute left in overtime. Donald White's layup found ECU down 83-78 with :42 to go. McCarter put the exclamation on the game with a two-handed jam to put the Camels up to stay with just :10 seconds left at 85-78 before a Richmond trey at the buzzer.
East Carolina lost their first game at home this season. They were ice cold from the arc going 1-23 for much of the game before Akeem Richmond heated up late to hit five treys down the stretch and help put the game into overtime.
