GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina junior defensive lineman Darius Commissiong has been dismissed from the Pirate football program following a Friday arrest according to an announcement from head football coach Scottie Montgomery.

The decision came after Montgomery was made aware that Commissiong was charged with felony animal cruelty by the Greenville Police Department.

"While we always want to be in a position to guide young people, unacceptable behavior such as this clearly crosses the line of humanity and simply will not be tolerated," Montgomery said. "There's a level of accountability which defines our program, athletics department and East Carolina University, and any conduct which isn't congruent with those values is unwelcome here."

Commissiong, who transferred into the ECU program during the summer of 2015, played in 10 games as a reserve last season and made 10 tackles. He was the Pirates' projected starter at one of the defensive end positions when training camp concluded last week.
