After playing three quarters of pretty competitive football against nationally ranked USF before basically bringing new meaning to no quarter in the fourth, Scottie Montgomery says he wants to get the kind of effort from his team that he witnessed back when he was a player at Duke playing against ECU.
He wants his team flying around, making plays and playing much more aggressively.
Montgomery recognized wide receiver Davon Grayson, running back Darius Pinnix and quarterback Thomas Sirk on offense and linebacker Aaron Ramseur, defensive tackle Alex Turner and cornerback Colby Gore for having that kind of effort on Saturday in ECU's 61-31 home loss to USF.
ECU "should have been more aggressive" overall according to Coach Mo and he says USF's overall team speed made the Pirates vulnerable to cut blocking.
He stated that Sirk, who had a great practice Sunday night along with tight end Steven Baggett and a few others, are starting to provide a lot more vocal support in practice.
With Temple coming up this week in AAC play at 2-3 and winless in AAC play after a close 20-13 home loss to Houston, the Owls present some challenges for ECU(1-4/1-1 AAC).
Western Carolina graduate Geoff Collins is in his first year at the helm of the Owls.
Temple is playing more spread offensively than they were earlier in the season after losing some guys to graduation last season.
ECU is working to show their defense more offensive speed in practice to have them ready for what they'll see in game action.
The Pirates expect cornerback Corey Seargent to return on Tuesday and safety Tim Irvin worked in the individual segments of practice Sunday night as he continues to work through his injury issues.
PirateIllustrated.com was there to bring you Coach Montgomery's press conference Monday morning in it's entirety from Ward Building on the campus of ECU.
