ECU Tops Norfolk St. for 8th Win

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina got their eighth win of the season with a 74-63 win over Norfolk State Saturday night in Minges Coliseum.
Maurice Kemp led a 12-nothing run in the second half to end up with a game high 23 points for the Pirates in their 7th straight home win.

East Carolina(8-3) never trailed in the contest as Miguel Paul opened the game with a pair of three-point jumpers to take an early 6-2 lead. Kemp scored three times in a row as the Pirates went up by nine just four minutes into the game.
Norfolk State went 0 for 7 from the arc in the first half and trailed by seven at halftime, 38-31.
Two Kemp jumpers and a lay-in along with a trey from Shamarr Bowden vaulted the Pirates to a 60-44 lead with six minutes to go in the game.
Two Pendarvis Williams treys sliced the lead to eight with 2:12 left but Paul and Kemp hit four free throws down the stretch to nail down the victory.
Williams led Norfolk State(6-8), who has played only two games at home this season, with 15 points while Rashid Gaston tossed in 12 for the Spartans.
Robert Sampson scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds while Miguel Paul scored 19 and dished out 8 assists for the Pirates.
ECU shot 49 percent from the floor including 5 for 15 from three-point range in the victory.
