As we head toward Christmas, the Pirates have added another defensive commitment.

Houston (Tx) Davis linebacker Bruce Bivins an Associated Press First Team 6A All-State selection in Texas has flipped his commitment from Fresno State to East Carolina.

Bivins racked up 81 tackles including 14.5 sacks, 20.5 tackles for a loss, two defensive touchdowns, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Defensive coordinator Kenwick Thompson is credited with Bivins' recruitment for the Pirates who have had a big week in landing additional personnel.

The 5-11, 217 pounder has a nose for the football and is a heavy hitter. Bivins took a trip to East Carolina last weekend and chose the Pirates over Fresno State, UNLV, Tulane, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Northwestern State among others.

Bivins is the ninth defensive addition so far for this recruiting cycle for the Pirates.

The addition of Bivins finds East Carolina at 21 prospects who are either committed or signed for the class of 2017.
