IRVING, Texas --- East Carolina senior Maurice Kemp has been named Conference USA Player-of-the-Week, the league office announced on Monday. It is the first weekly award of his career.

Kemp, a native of Miami, Fla., averaged 23.0 points and eight rebounds in helping the Pirates split a pair of games last week. Against Memphis on Wednesday, he scored 13 points and distributed a career-best four assists without a turnover, while playing all 40 minutes.

Saturday night against Rice, Kemp poured in a career-high 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and 13-of-16 at the free throw line. His 33 points matched the ECU record for most points in a C-USA game, while he also matched the school mark for most steals in a C-USA game with a career-best six. His 13 made free throws, the most by any C-USA player this season, were also a personal-best.

Kemp's 33-point outpouring at Rice made him the first Pirate in five years to have a pair of 30-point games in the same season. He also netted 30 at home against Houston.

Kemp currently leads Conference USA in scoring with 17.9 points per game, while averaging a league-best 17.5 points per game in conference play. Kemp also ranks among the league's top 15 overall leaders in steals (5th), rebounding (8th), blocks (9th), field goal percentage (11th) and free throw percentage (15th).

Kemp and his ECU teammates will return to the hardwood Saturday, Feb. 9 against UCF. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m at the UCF Arena in Orlando and can be seen live on the Conference USA Digital Sports Network.
