East Carolina landed 22 prospects for the class of 2017 including eleven three-star ranked prospects as seen by Rivals.com. There are also several sleepers in the group that could ultimately turn out to be much better than their ranking indicates.

The Pirates are coming off a 3-8 season in 2016 and the road doesn’t get any easier this fall with one of the area’s toughest out of conference schedules and a league that is improving every year.

Second year Pirate head coach Scottie Montgomery met with the press to discuss this year’s recruiting and sounded excited about this year’s haul.

“The cannons were firing hard from about 7am to about 9,” Montgomery said, “Thank goodness we didn’t have any curve balls to have to swing at.”

Ten of the twenty-two signees hail from the state of North Carolina. The Pirates landed four from Florida, three from South Carolina, two from Mississippi and one each from Georgia, Ohio and Texas.

“I believe we answered our immediate needs on the line of scrimmage and delivered plenty of quality talent in our skill areas,” Montgomery said, “I like our numbers having ten currently with us for off-season development and spring ball and being able to sign a balanced blend on both sides of the ball."

Ten of the signees are enrolled for the spring semester at ECU which should give them a head start by being able to participate in spring drills.
